Handsworth 1 Blades 5 (Under 14 Red)

Wednesday 20th Apr 2016 (989 Views)

5-1 win for the u13 reds vs Handsworth today. Very strange game.
Handsworth started far stronger than the Reds, dominating possession, winning all the lose balls and deserving to be 1-0 up albeit a fortunate own goal.
We were playing a midfield diamond again, but it just wasn't working. We weren't finding each other, giving the ball away cheaply, we just couldn't get out of our half so credit to Handsworth. The Handsworth midfield pairing of Eden and Maddie putting in strong performances.
Laila arrived late and we put her straight on and brought Wedgey on and went to our usual 341 system. With Ellie Nash slotting into the centre of the park and giving us the physical presence to compete.
Lailas quality on the ball got the team ticking and Darcy scored her 5th goal in her 5th ever game, with a nice finish. Laila then kept possession and played back to T who played a great through ball to Wedgey who scored with a beautiful lob.
2nd half and we started playing champagne football, a total contrast to the first half. Izzy wedge scored after a sharp turn and jynking run- quality goal.
Laila curled in a beautiful long range free kick and Lucy used her pace to score a poachers 5th.
The blades also hit the crossbar and missed a penalty, so could have added to their tally. The keeper making a good save from the penalty, to cap of another tidy performance.
The link up between Charlotte, Laila and Wedgey in midfield in the second half was awesome, all three girls showing exceptional quality on the ball. Its the first time Charlotte has played in central midfield and it was an eye catching little cameo.
Girl of the game as chosen by the ref - Grace yet again - will done to her!!
Cup final Saturday!! Bring it on....🏆🏆🏆
